3rd Annual Tongass ToughMan Update:
Welcome to the Tongass ToughMan Triathlon of 2021! This event will again not OFFICIALLY be happening this year. HOWEVER, we are pleased to announce we will be gathering at City Dock on Saturday, July 3rd to take on the 1.2 mile open water swim, 56 mile bike and 15 mile run, commencing with a 7:30 AM swim start. Our solo and 3-person teams will be recognized as per usual, but we also welcome any and all individuals interested in participating in the free and mostly unsupported event to join us, whether for the full distance, partial distance, or an individual leg.
An aid station will be set up at City Dock for the beginning and end of each leg. There will also be an unmanned aid station at Lower Salamander Camp (25 miles into bike) and a manned aid station at the High Country Shelter (7 miles into run). Each station will have water, Gatorade, energy gels, candy bars, and fruit (no cups will be provided in an effort to reduce waste). Pop-up shelters at City Dock will double as bike/gear storage and changing rooms for full distance participants. Although certain amenities may be provided, this is an unofficial event and every participant is responsible for their own safety, gear, food, and any technical difficulties that arrive throughout the day. The course will be fully marked the day of the race, but we ask participants, especially those from out of town, to familiarize themselves with the course prior to the event. Boats and paddlers will be on standby to assist and aid swimmers but we ask that you do your best to find a PADDLE propelled friend to follow close by throughout the swim portion. Though this event is unofficial, we still understand how important it is for individuals to take home something tangible to represent their enduring sacrifice, and we will be awarding medals and wearable swag to soloists and three-person teams.
*If you have already registered online, we will be refunding you in full so you can participate for free.
July 2, 6:00-9:00pm
We welcome participants, friends and family to join us (venue to be determined and released as soon as possible) for a free pre-event meal and encourage all athletes to check-in, drop off bikes and gear bags, and to receive/request any additional information for the following day.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns so we can fill in any blanks.
Although we are having another toned-down version of the race this year, we have big plans to go all out for Tongass ToughMan 2022 and will be ramping it up in hopes to attract diehard athletes from all parts to take on the challenge, as well as look into the possibility of incorporating a kid’s triathlon. With this in mind, we will be organizing a fundraiser to accept donations for our 2022 events.
